Our mission

Kiwai: Join the Celebration!

In an overwhelmingly rich mangrove of media – screaming with information, content, advertising, entertainment, opinion, images, sounds, intelligence, research, breaking news, false-news, trends, rumors, and inviting noise – elements all competing for your attention and access to your consumer choices, Kiwai Media has launched a floating oasis of good things to read, compelling ideas, and inspiring voices from original people and places. American poet Robert Frost called this “a momentary stay against confusion.”

Kiwai Media believes in the value of the human voice – and the book that gives it volume. Books are our heritage. Shared. Social. Borrowed. The power of the imagination is our greatest talent. Our minds are our most powerful piece of adaptive technology. All media is a form of book. And the author is at the heart of authority.

At Kiwai Media we embrace the imagination in all forms. Great stories. Powerful memoirs. Exciting inventions. Value-based solutions to global – and local – challenges.

We picked the kiwai (pronounced KEE-WHY) as our symbol. It’s a delicious fruit, a beautiful flower, an obscure island and language group, and above all a hearty plant that possesses the adaptive power of being able to grow and thrive anywhere. Frozen, tropical, north, south, dry, humid... the kiwai, like our team, our clients, and our authors... are from everywhere. Human. Dynamic. Inspiring people. Unified by the quality of what they have to share.

Kiwai Media is a value-driven media and publishing company that connects innovative thinkers with concerned readers. Kiwai’s borders are the limits of what we set out to achieve.

The form, length, and distribution methods of each of our books and media campaigns, as well as the economic model for everything that we decide to tackle, are determined by the content, message, urgency, and end-goal of the project. The content and the author fuel our strategic choices of books, articles, blogs, native advertising, public spaces, speeches, events, or something totally different.

Kiwai’s evolving group of editors, designers, communicators, media strategists, analysts, and artists hail from Paris, Washington, DC, Bucharest, Boston, New York, Dakar, Bern, Monaco, Lagos, and Cape Town. And a lot of places in between. The Kiwai network is constantly growing. The only thing that we try to keep permanent is the quality of the Kiwai approach.

With a particularly keen – but not exclusive – eye on Africa, and other frontiers of opportunity and imagination, Kiwai Media is well suited to bring like-minded audiences, actors, investors, and concerned citizens to the same feast.

All art and commerce which contribute to the celebration is invited to the Kiwai table.

Our expertise

We develop and publish books by remarkable people – writers, leaders, and courageous individuals of all sorts – in business, culture, science, and community action. Sometimes the stories are ready to share; sometimes Kiwai helps find the voices and stories and give them shape and volume. Kiwai's editorial and media experience enables authors to gain audiences and impact. Our production know-how allows for the right format and design for each type of work. Although we prefer shorter works, Kiwai publishes books of all lengths and genres and distributes them as ebooks, print-on-demand, and in other innovative platforms.

Our FICTION collection is called JAMES BALDWINS' EYES, inspired by the intensity of feeling that those eyes convey. Our NON FICTION collection of works advancing a "spiral economy" and sustainably-designed planet, inspired by the work of William McDonough, is called WAGING PEACE. Our belief in an emerging Africa is celebrated in a ground-breaking collection by African thought-leaders called AFRICA. Our memoirs and remarkable first-person stories we call AUTHENTICITY. Our collection of books that show you HOW to get involved, HOW to do things and celebrate the HOW, is called, well, HOW. We believe in the poetry of being alive, and our selection of poems are served as a daily apèratif called POETRY BY THE GLASS.

We love good advertising –ads that convey the value, the message, and the content that the client is passionate about sharing. Good ads respond to the legitimate needs of the reader, the viewer, the public, YOU! If the content of an ad helps you, you thank it. It's a service. It's a benefit. That's the advertising that Kiwai creates, promotes, and encourages. An ad is only expensive when it does not pay for itself. The cost of a good ad which creates value should be seen as a blessing. Kiwai loves to invent, share, and place good ads in good places at good times for good reasons.

Although we can place ads in print and digital formats anywhere in the world, our preferred agency status with THE FINANCIAL TIMES, and particularly within our seasoned expertise in and with Africa, the Middle East, and emerging markets, enables us to stage quality advertising campaigns and single insertions with measurable results. Kiwai is expanding its innovative cross-platform and native solutions, and integrating them into its publishing and strategy businesses.

Things that work, need a strategy. Good publishing and advertising insist on strategy. Media and communications strategy consisting of effective yet practical thinking, is the third head in our trilogy of services. Kiwai works with all budgets and shares its best ideas with heads of state, ministers, corporate management, NGOs, advocacy groups, and other people we care about. We also do a lot of pro bono work when we believe in someone or something rich in purpose and social impact, and less enabled by cash. We have been known to explore barter arrangements and creative partnerships and collaborations. Bitcoin? Carbon credits? Frequent Flyer miles? Smiles.
